Today, I want to take a moment to highlight our newest hosted travel locations: Bahia De Suenos, Mexico with Fly Fish Mex and Fishwest.

The Location:

Located in the East Cape region of Baja California Sur, Mexico, and situated on Baja’s Sea of Cortez, the Bahia De Suenos and surrounding waters are regarded as one of the most prolific bluewater big game fishing spots in the world.

Getting to Bahia De Los Suenos:

Travel to Bahia De Los Suenos (Bay OF Dreams) is fairly easy and straight forward. Guests can choose to arrive in La Paz, MX or San Jose Del Cabo (Los Cabos), MX. From there, it is roughly a two-hour drive to the lodge with ground transportation coordinated by the team at Fly Fish Mex.

Lodge Accommodations:

Located in the center of the Bahia De Súenos, The Gran Súeno is a small and very luxurious resort community that has everything you need all within a natural setting. Guests are housed in custom built villas in an ideal setting on the Bay of Dreams. Rooms are all master suites each with their own private bath. Villas include Jacuzzi, pool, access to private white sand beach with adjacent reef for snorkeling or fishing.

The Fishing:

The fishing in the area is extremely productive and vibrantly diverse. incredible number of pelagic and resident species including roosterfish, jacks, dorado, billfish, tuna, golden trevally, and even more. On this most recent trip, one guest ended the trip with 26 different species to hand over the course of six days of fishing.

The fishing day begins and ends right in front the lodge. Captains pick up guests on the beach for the days fishing. The day starts at 5:30 with breakfast being served in the restaurant or brought on board with the lunches at 6:00am. Guests will arrive on the beach to meet the Pangas front of the village.

From there, the adventure begins, Each day represents a new opportunity and can be tailored to the desires of each guest. For most, this means exploring the surrounding waters for roosterfish. During the summer months, the resident roosterfish can be found from five to 60+ pounds.

You can expect to see all sorts of fish throughout the fishing grounds near the lodge. During our most recent week at the lodge, our group found Marlin, Dorado, Roosterfish, Giant Needlefish, and Golden Trevally. No matter how you slice it the fishing in the area is spectacular.  Don’t fret over missed shots… You will get plenty.

JC

I grew up in the shadow of some of the most heralded ski slopes in the western United States. Instead of skiing or snowboarding I took up fly fishing at a young age. Through high school & my early college years I was fortunate enough to represent my country playing Sled Hockey. I started at Fishwest as a member of the web team and now I oversee and manage almost every aspect of the Fishwest e-commerce platform. I also act as the main point of contact for all of the Fishwest hosted travel trips.
