Fishing & Recreation in Utah During COVID-19

Editors Note: JC Here! I hope this finds all of you safe, happy, and most importantly, healthy! In the last few days I have seen alot of info being tossed around in relation to our local recreational opportunities. I hope you all find this to be a good resource to understand what your recreation opportunities look like at this time. As with anything involving COVID-19, this info is subject to change and I will provide updates whenever possible.

Before you take a trip to enjoy the outdoors, please check with the appropriate land-management agency and with the county. Many of Utah’s county health departments and law enforcement agencies currently have rules and restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and those may affect your ability to visit, camp or recreate in the area.

Also, based on Gov. Gary Herbert’s directive on March 27, if you wish to go fishing or enjoy other wildlife-related recreation in a Utah State Park, you may only visit parks in the county where you reside. To find fishing ponds and lakes near you, visit the DWR website.

Keep In Mind:

Check with the county to see about any directives or restrictions specific to the area.
Refunds will not be given for 365-day fishing and hunting licenses

Local Updates:

Statewide Update – Do not go to or engage in activities at a state park located outside the county in which you currently reside. (The Availability of National Parks will be determined in consultation with the NPS and the county in which the park is located). Full Governor Directive Found Here
Wasatch County – Recreational visitors may not come and recreate in Wasatch County, including for outdoor recreation and camping. In effected until April 14th, 2020. unless amended or extended by subsequent order. Click Here For More Info
Summit County – Users can engage in an outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with Social Distancing Requirements as defined in this Section, such as, by way of example and without limitation, walking, hiking, or running. Do not congregate in groups at trailheads, parks, or recreational areas. More Info Found Here

I grew up in the shadow of some of the most heralded ski slopes in the western United States. Instead of skiing or snowboarding I took up fly fishing at a young age. Through high school & my early college years I was fortunate enough to represent my country playing Sled Hockey.
