The Company:
“Bajio” pronounced (ba-hee-o) is named after the Spanish word for shallows. Bajio Sunglasses is the brainchild of former Costa Del Mar Marketing executive and fly-fishing industry stalwart, Al Perkinson. With their vast industry experience, they know what’s worked in the past and designed any issues out of their line. They constantly search for ways to improve and evolve. Because of this, they are passionate about what they do and don’t sleep until they get it right. The result is the lightest weight and most comfortable shades on the ocean.
“Bajio’s mission is to help save saltwater flats around the world.” Bajio has laid a foundation of cause-related initiatives and partnered with local communities to help realize their goals. The backdrop of one of their initial marketing projects is a place that is near and dear to the staff of Fishwest. The quiet fishing village of Xcalak, Mexico. The Bajio team is committed to keeping the beaches of Xcalak clean and pristine. They have recently set a goal to donate $10 from the sale of every frame to the Xcalak Rooster Project. To have the beaches of Xcalak clean and garbage free by the end of 2021.
The Glasses:
Bajio is set apart from the rest of the industry due to their environmentally conscious methods. Bajio frames are built from 100% plant-based plastics and are 100% biodegradable and recyclable.
They offer two different lens materials (polycarbonate and glass) and six lens color/tint options. Their lenses are designed with sight fishing in mind. Named for the particular fish and the environment in which the fish live in.
Their industry leading polarization technology is made even more dynamic with the addition of a blue light. The blue light blocking filter reduces eye fatigue over the course of a fishing day. The initial offering at Fishwest includes ten angling lifestyle inspired frames with a variety of tints.
Bajio, unlike other companies, is already demonstrating a conscious forward ethos. It is clear that they are focused on giving back while doing what they love.
