You also want to have a rod in hand that has a strong butt section that can pull up 40 feet of line to make that quick shot for that cruising bruiser that got your attention. The Maverick checks these boxes. It also has what seems to be a very light swing weight, possibly lighter than the R8 Salt, which costs significantly more money. I use the 10 WT while fishing for larger stripers matched with a Lamson Centerfire 10 reel and a Rio Outbound Short also in a 10WF.
